Pinarello LungaVita
Those of us who are truly passionate about our sport want – and need the best equipment we can possibly get. Golfers devour golf magazines and haunt pro shops – that new set of woods will definitely knock three strokes off their game. And so it is with cyclists. They want the best road cycle there is and will spend whatever it takes – and some of those bikes can cost. But wait a moment . . . as members of the cycling world, we already know that Pinarello of Treviso, Italy builds exclusive, top-of-the-line road bikes for the world’s top racing teams. And hey – if it’s good enough for them – etc. And those designing geniuses also make the Pinarello LungaVita which is an affordable alternative to taking out a mortgage when you go looking for your Pinarello.
The LungaVita is a tribute to Giovanni Pinarello’s first color schemes used for the company’s 1951 series – three color combinations and two designs in the classiest bike ever built. The 2010 Pinarello LungaVita was created as a single speed road bike and is a beautifully rendered retro of the 1951 black and sand color combination which made Pinarello famous. Even the rims are painted white. It’s outstanding for its lightness and its versatility as it has been designed especially for big-city dwellers that cycle instead of using rapid transit. From New York to Hong Kong, the LungaVita rules the road in its natural habitat – the urban jungle.
Single speed? Yes. The LungaVita was designed specifically for big-city commuters. And of course, for those ubiquitous, wing-footed messengers who love it – and they know what they’re talking about when it comes to bikes. But why is it called the Pinarello LungaVita?
LungaVita means “long life” which refers to the possible life-changing results of trying to coast while breezing along on a fixed gear cycle. But the Pinarello LungaVita is equipped with a “Flip-Flop” hub which combines a fixed gear cog with a single speed freewheel, thus preserving the rider’s life. It also comes with real road bars and levers; very different from those on regular road cycles. The frame is of 6061 T6 aluminum, providing durability and easy handling and the MOst alloy crankset maintains the bike’s elegant appearance while delivering top performance.
This superb bicycle comes in five sizes and was only available as a complete bike. And in 2011, Pinarello is introducing two more special Pinarello LungaVitas – the Soho and the Chelsea in stunning color schemes – see them online. You can also customize the 2011 models. And the 2011 handlebars are more aggressive for track racing than the 2010 and the MOst dual track rims are deeper. The Soho will have a drop bar as well as a flat bar to suit all Pinarello aficionados – and city messengers alike. This is definitely an urban cruise bike and is recommended by those who know these things as the best for cycling, urban riding and of course, looking good.
And for about a thousand bucks, it can be yours. Go and test-ride one. Compare its handling, lightness, balance and downright cool looks with any other bike on the road – and you’ll become a Pinarello LungaVita fan forever!
